In this thesis, we looked at the process of medical folklore that was inherited from the Chosun era and became superstition due to the fact that the colonial sanitary police appeared and cracked down on superstition, mainly with the Kyeongmuhwibo, which was the colonial police organ. The articles related to superstition in Japanese magazines of the colonial period can be said to be another precious material with which we can look into not only the daily lives and social structure in colonial Korea, but also the colonial policy of the Japanese Government General of Korea in that the Japanese Government General of Korea paid attention to superstition, which was closely related to the daily life of ordinary people, for convenience in its rule. Particularly through the articles related to superstition in Kyeongmuhwibo, we can understand that as one of the various sanitary policies that were carried out by the Japanese Government General of Korea for its colonial rule, out of folk treatment actions the things whose harmful consequences were treated as severe were regarded as superstition, and in order to break those down with whatever method it had been propagandizing to the general public. The investigation into the folklore of the colony carried out to break down superstition as above consequently regarded superstition as the object of breakdown; and by watching, controlling, cracking down and punishing food, clothing, and shelter and the daily lives on the whole of the colonial Koreans it was used as a method of convenience in the colonial rule. However, on the other hand, it is necessary to pay attention to the fact that there were Japanese researchers who understood that the folk religions, including superstition, were not only the object of investigation for convenience in colonial rule, but also materials for understanding Korea and Koreans.
