What are the key research trends in KAP and EAP? With this research question in mind, this article aims to review and compare the research trends in the two disciplines. In doing so, this article performs a qualitative research synthesis of the relevant studies in major domestic journals (e.g., Bilingual Research, Journal of Korean Language Education, Korean Journal of Applied Linguistics) from 2002 to 2011. A total number of 83 research articles in KAP, published during this period, were classified and coded according to an analytic framework in terms of (1) research scope, (2) objects of research, (3) research topics, and (4)research methods. The KAP results were compared with the EAP results based on an analysis of a total number of 166 research articles in EAP published during the same period. The results show that the research trends in KAP and EAP have similarities in some respects including the research scope and research topics addressed. Suggestions for future research were made.
