By surveying 󰡔Bukmak-diary󰡕in various ways such as the phases and the lifestyle of the time, not limited to a written literature, this study maximizes utility value of a research. 󰡔Bukmak-diary󰡕has been recorded experiences and knowledge, while he had performed specific work as a career official a Bukpyeongsa(北評事). 󰡔Bukmak-diary󰡕can be divided into several parts, ‘start for post(赴任)’, ‘perform one's duties(公務遂行)’, ‘return(歸還)’, and ‘besides(其他)’ according to schedules of the Bukpyeongsa. ‘start for post’ is a schedule that he has been appointed to the Bukpyeongsa, then he has arrived at Gyeongsung(鏡城) which is a place of his appointment. He recorded his entourage list, visiting Dobong-Seowon(道峰書院), trip to Junwonjeon(濬源殿), and stopping nine castles. ‘perform one's duties’ is a schedule that he went on a patrol the six military positions(六鎭) of Hamgyeongbukdo(咸鏡北道) and performed his official duties after arriving at Gyeongsung. He carried out the state examination(科擧) to the students of Confucianism, held the essay contest, set and graded questions for ten days(旬製), promoted educational affairs, tested the martial arts to warriors of a remote region, inspected the Chinkiyi(親騎衛), and supervised the first sale with the Qing(淸) Dynasty. ‘return’ is a schedule that he returned to a capital city after finishing the mission of the Bukpyeongsa. It is recorded that he had explored famous sites such as Mt. Chilbo(七寶山) and Sukwangsa(釋王寺) on his way back. ‘besides’ is a schedule that he climbed Mt. Baekdu(白頭山). He recorded remorse for the installation Jeonggyebi(定界碑) and impression for watching the large pond. 󰡔Bukmak-diary󰡕 has many values of material as a work record of government official, as the historical sources of Hamgyeongbukdo region's life, as a geography book of Bukkwan(北關) region, as a culture heritage's guide book and as a personal record. The descriptive feature of 󰡔Bukmak-diary󰡕 is that it properly expresses narration, landscape depiction, lyric and discussion. He objectively described about his experiences and knowledge. After visiting historical sites and watching beautiful scenery, he concretely depicted that places. When he retrospected the historical events or people who were relative to himself, he honestly expressed the affairs and figures. And he logically suggested military camp’s situation of a remote region and opinions on the national defense. Through this study, we could survey a career official’s reality awareness and the field of literature in the latter part of Joseon(朝鮮) dynasty. Also, we could see the phases of the times and the diplomatic stature in the 19th century. This study secures the cultural historical material in Korean Chinese Literature Research and utilizes source. Then, the result of this study will contribute to not only the development of a study on the writer and the time but also the research on extending and intensifying the cultural historical prospects.
