The objectives of this study are to analyze the self-directed learning perceived by employee in food service on job performance and the moderating effect by mentoring between self-directed learning and job performance. The major findings of the study are summarized as follows: First, results showed that self-directed learning had significant influence on job performance. Second, the moderating effect of mentoring on the relationship between self-directed learning and job performance had influence. Thus, organizations should promote a culture of encouraging self-directed learning and implement systematic support. Also, it needs to build up networks through participating in diverse learning community in order to acquire resources and information for the effective learning. And mentoring is a effective way which enables to form positive attitudes on member's work and their organizations and then to heighten job performance. Therefore it is necessary for food service industry to introduce formal and systematic mentoring that create the environment which enable employees to adjust to their works.
