The present research was conducted in order to find out what employees believe as ideal career development. With increasing attention being given to that area, differing types of advice are rampant. However, it is hard for individuals to determine the appropriate model of career development for themselves. In this research, we configured the belief types of career development for Korean employees using Q methodology. In study 1, we identified that Korean employees’ beliefs about career development can be classified into three types: Best Award Winner, Job as a Hobby, and Value Boosters. In study 2, career-related variables such as income satisfaction, work satisfaction, commitment, and turnover intention were different among these belief types of career development. Career development was not a single path that all employees should go through, but rather a path based on one’s own life style that differs from others’. Current research shows that different beliefs about career development create different aims and attitudes toward work and career.
