The NCS(Non-Cariogenicity Sugar) from Bacillussp. S-1013 was purified by cold acetone and methanolprecipitation, and DEAE- cellulose ion-exchange and SephadexG-100 column chromatographies, to yield an amorphousyellow syrup. The melting point and [α]D20 were 155- 157oCand +53, respectively. Instrumental analyses such asFT-IR, 1H-NMR, and 13C-NMR showed that the NCScontained an O-H group, C-H, C=O, NH2, anomeric carbon,anomeric proton, N-acetylgalactose, fucose, and neuramicacid, thus, the NCS was determined to be a trisaccharide ofFuc(1→4)GalNAc(2→6)NeuAc.
