Airborne microorganisms, which are currentlytermed bioaerosols, have received attention owing to theharmful effects they have on human health. As the concernover airborne microorganisms grows, there also grows anurgent ned to study and develop efficient methods forcontrolling them. In this study, thermal energy using a thermaltube was tested as a control method, mainly against airborneE. coli. For a comparison, B. subtilis var. niger spores wereutilized in the experimentation. It was found that the widelyknown inactivation conditions for microrganisms were notadequate against airborne microrganisms. The experimentalresults demonstrated the need for extensive studies that shouldinvestigate adequate and economic conditions to controlagainst airborne bacteria. In this study, thermal energy exposedby the thermal tube demonstrated an inactivation performancefor controlling E. coli bioaerosols.
