Cheongsun-OmiJa, a new cultivar of Schisandraceae vine (Schisandra chinensis Baillon) was developed at Jinan Medicinal Herbs Experiment Station, Jeollabuk-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services in 2002. Collections was made on local lines from 1991 to 1994, followed by clonal selection, replicated yield trials and regional yield trials from 1995 to 2002. This was registered as new variety of Schisandraceae vine first in Korea. This variety have a elliptical type in leaf shape, pale green in leaf color and pale red in flower color. The blooming date was at May 10 and the ripening date was September 18. This variety were longer in cluster length, wider in cluster width than that of landrace. This variety could be characterized as disease severity to brown leaf spot (Phoma sp.) and powdery mildew (Microsphaera sp.) compared to landrace. The number of berry cluster per plant of this variety was greatly more than that of landrace. And, the weight of hundred berries was heavier than that of landrace. Fresh fruits yield of this variety showed 6.17M/T per hectare as 31% overwhelmed that of landrace in the four years replicated yield trials. Also, it showed 5.54M/T per hectare as 7% overwhelmed that of native variety in the regional yield trial of four years old plant.
