The purpose of the study is to assess the emotional expressiveness of dancers. The emotional expressiveness refers to the degree to which a person's emotional state is shown in his or her behavior. This tendency to express one's inner emotional state using body is recognized as one of the specific characters of a dancer. Also, those with good emotional expressiveness are recognized as dancers with good performance. 54 college students and graduates with dance major have been participated in this study. The survey used the unstructured open questionnaire to assess the emotional expressiveness of dancers. The questionnaire consists of 6 questions regarding qualities, characters, abilities and movements to be a good dancer. Consisting factors were determined using frequency analysis which was performed based on outcomes from each question. According to research, factors can be analyzed to 5 primary factors and 23 subordinate factors. The 5 primary factors are artistic sense, expressive confidence, expressive impulse, ability of emotional communication and movement patterns. The concept of emotional expressiveness of dancers, however, is still in the state of ambiguity mostly due to abstract nature of dance. Therefore, the study aims to set a foundation for professional dance education using scientific methods to analyze and extract the emotional expressiveness of dancers. Based on the result of this study, the development of useful and practical assessment tools for emotional expressiveness needs to be followed.
