2017 and 2018 can be described as two very memorable years for Koreans as the people’s power brought about the change of government following the impeachment of the president and the 2018 Inter-Korea Summits, held at Panmunjom, opened a new era of peace negotiations in the Korean peninsula. These two years also bear a special significance for historians, given that 2017 marked the hundredth anniversary of the Russian Revolution and 2018 was the fiftieth anniversary of the ‘1968’ Revolution. While Korean historians held various colloquiums to commemorate these two historical events with well-deserving enthusiasm, an examination of the French and Italian History Studies conducted in Korea during this period shows that there has been no remarkable changes or advancements in the research trends in the respective fields. Instead, bad practices and customs, such as writing scholarly articles without proper considerations of the existing research, recycling previous research and publishing them anew, conducting research lacking empirical evidence, writing without editing, seem to have been solidified-thereby bringing some concerns that cannot be ignored. It is deemed necessary halt these practices to make room for the proliferation of in-depth empirical academic research as well as the production of more popularly accessible works that could be more widely read by the general public.
