Case studies of the ground failures in the excavation site and the slope occurred recently are performed. The causes of the excavated ground failure and the ways of preventing the further accidents in the excavation site are also considered. From the studies of ground excavation failure, it was recognized that the reasons of ground collapse during excavation can be from a) insufficient geotechnical investigations, b) poor construction of excavated retaining walls, and c) lacks in understanding of the specialized retained wall methods and the design condition of ground excavation. Possible measures for preventing the excavated ground failures would be the site management and supervision by the civil engineers who have the specialty in excavation, the management of designs by specialized engineers and the strengthening of administrative management by the ordering organization. In the case of landslide cases, the recent Woo Myeon mountain debris flow case which is occurred in Seoul metropolitan area during the summer of 2011 awakened the importance of sufficient drainage capacity of sewage pipe and the preparations for the global warning.
