Objective: The purpose of this study is to propose an experimental body scan posture for 3D human body surface data. The experimental posture is designed to represent three typical core strengthening postures. Background: The population of people with lower back pain and pelvic pain is increasing in Korea. It has been claimed that some functional compression garment may stabilize muscles and it can prevent musculoskeletal disorders. In order to develop functional garments, collecting body surface data from 3D body scan is necessary. When typical core muscle strengthening body postures are used in 3D body scan, surface data from the hidden body parts may not be collected. Method: Three core strengthening postures and one experimental posture were selected as the 3D body scan posture. Thirty one muscles selected by the concept of myofascial meridians were analyzed. The muscles without missing area in the body scan data were classified by each scan posture. The muscles showing the same direction of variation patterns were identified by comparing the body surface area change of the three core strengthening posture with those of the experimental posture. Among the muscles showing different variation patterns, the muscles with less than 10% in difference of change rate were classified as a group with no difference. Results: Fourteen muscles in plank posture and seventeen muscles in each hip bridge posture and thigh rock-back posture were measurable. 78.6% of the muscles in plank posture, 88.2% of the muscles in hip bridge posture and 76.5% of the muscles in thigh rock-back posture were classified as a group with no difference compared with muscles in experimental posture.
