Report Errors
The purpose of this study is to identify successful types of community building perceived by building community project participants. This study intends to analyze basic elements needed for resident organizations to be successful on the basis of participants’ subjective perception and present ways for resident organizations to make progresses through community building. A Q-sort was conducted to 25 participants and with 35 statements related to successful types of community building, and as a result, the following three types were derived. First, the member-led organization type is based on the concept that member lead the organizing of resident organizations. Second, the resident cooperation-oriented type puts the greatest emphasis on residents’ participation in community building. Third, the sense of community-oriented type features the concept that community building should be based on sense of community. Suggestions on successful community building are also made based on the study results.
