In recent years of the color science field, there has been a lot of interest in research projects on the spectral prediction model, which can quantify not only color but also light and texture. In the absence of predictive models and measuring instruments, gloss management has received attention in color management. In this study, two surveys were conducted to obtain the visual satisfaction and color accuracy of the hard trim components in car interiors. First, the Lightness determined the most significant color attribute that affects the degree of gloss, and we revealed the correlation between Lightness and glossiness. Second, to find the degree of gloss that can satisfy both emotional and functional aspects, we conducted an irradiation and scratch resistance/staining test. In this study, 88 gray/beige scale group samples were searched to find the proper gloss for automotive interior hard trim parts, with correlation analysis through color/gloss measurement, designer and scratch resistance /stain. The following conclusions were made through analysis and findings. ① from lightness 25 to 60, ② from lightness 60 to 70, ③ over Lightness 70 color samples corresponding to Lightness indicate that the glossiness criteria should be set separately. As a result of the survey on the preferred gloss for color experts, up to 1.5GU of lightness 25 was preferred, and scratch resistance and stain resistance were satisfactory. Finally, the preferred glossiness survey of color experts favored 1.5GU on a Lightness 25, while the scratch and contamination acceptance criteria were all satisfied. In conclusion, we should control GU such as between Lightness 25 and Lightness 60 is 1.5 ±0.2GU, between Lightness 60 and Lightness 70 is 2.0 ±0.2GU, and between Lightness over 70 is 2.5 ±0.2GU. However, it is recommended to combine visual evaluation.
