The purpose of this research is to empirically analyze the relationship between the leading factors of open innovation activities and innovation performance of technology-based start-up companies. For this purpose, To this end, the previous literature was reviewed and a survey was conducted for early start-up companies in Busan area. The relationship between various factors was identified by using statistical analysis and structural equation modeling. The empirical results show that the organizational characteristics such as entrepreneurial orientation, dynamic capabilities, and R&D capabilities have a positive effect on their open innovation activities. However, the institutional characteristics such as government policies and cooperation activities do not have any significant effect. In addition, inside-out open innovation and outside-in open innovation have a significant positive effect on innovation performance. According to the result, the moderating effects of environmental dynamics such as market dynamics and technological dynamics are not statistically significant between open innovation and innovation performance. This study is meaningful in that it analyzes the antecedents and outcomes of the open innovation in an integrated manner. Hence, it will be necessary to activate open innovation activities for new product development and market performance of technology-based start-up companies.
