Most leisure and recreation studies have reported that people who seriously engage in leisure activities tend to be older adults with stable incomes. This study argued that serious leisure individuals could also consist of younger adults with lower incomes. A total of 251 visitors to an X-Games festival participated in the current study which examined whether the motives for attending and satisfaction with the X-Games of serious skateboarders differed from those of casual skateboarders. Recreational specialization and serious leisure indicators were employed to examine the relationships between dimensions of specialization and the motivations to attend and satisfaction with the event. The results of one-way ANOVA indicated that participants identified as serious skateboarders were relatively young and had lower income status than those that were less serious. No relationship was found between the level of leisure seriousness and participants’ motivations and satisfaction with the X-Games event.
