This paper will analyze the influence of the new culture movement on Chinese culture and society from Lu Xun of the new school and Wang Guo Wei of the old school.
The first part describes the social environment of the late Qing Dynasty in China. The replacement of the dynasty shuffles the division of Chinese power politically, the intellectuals are eager to save the country ideologically. The second part focuses on the background and process of the new cultural movement. The new and old schools with clear flags take saving the country as their duty. The new school advocates criticized the traditional feudal ethics of China, promoted the spread of modern ideology and culture, and reformed Chinese literature; the old school supported the way of Confucius and Mencius, did not want to seek the way of China from the west, and insisted on starting from the traditional Chinese culture. The third part analyzes the rise and fall of Lu Xun and Wang Guowei in the new cultural movement, including the intersection and opposition between them, the confrontation and mutual influence between the two groups.
Finally, it summarizes the views and reflections of the Democrats and Conservatives on the new culture movement in the specific historical background of China.
