This paper deals with the life history of Gonepteryx mahaguru aspasia Menetries, based on field and laboratory observations in Kwangnung, central Korea. 1. This species is one of the common butterflies in Kwangnung. The adults occur from the middle of April to the biginning of May after hibernation. 2. The food plant of this species is Rhamnus davurica Pallas. 3. Eggs are laid singly on the stem of the food plant. The egg stage lasts 11 days. 4. The larval stage consists of five instar. The instar periods are as follows: 1st instar, 6 days; 2nd instar, 3 days; 3rd instar, 8 days; 4th instar, 4 days; and final instar, 11 days. 5. The larva pupates ell the underside of a leaf of the food plant The pupal period lasts 10 to 12 days. 6. Newly emerged adults occur from the middle of June to the middle of July when they enter aestivation. They occur again from the end of August to the end of September and then enter hibernation as adults.
