134 cases of tuberculosis of the bones and joints, treated at Hanyang University Hospital during the periods from January, 1978 were studied and analysed. 84 out of 134 cases were tuberculosis of the spine, and 50 cases were tuberculsis of the peripheral bones and joints. The results were as follows; 1. The age preference was under 30 years old. The age distribution of tuberculosis of the spine was broad in articular type, and more predominent under 10 years old in central type. In tuberculosis of the peripheral bones and joints. The age distributions were more frequent under 30 years old. 3. The most frequent site of involvement was thoracic spine (37.9%) in tuberculosis of the spine, hip joint (50.0%) in articular type and greater trochanter (28.6%) in central type of tuberculosis of the peripheral bones and joints. 4. Associated pulmonary tuberculous lesions were observed in 50 cases (37.3%). 5. The major roentgenographic findings were narrowing of intervertebral disc space 94%, destruction of vertebral body, 91.7%, osteoprosis, 76.2%, collapse of vertebral body, 67.9%, cold abscess, 53.6%, kyphosis, 51.2%, spur formation, 33.3% in tuberculosis of the spine, and narrowing of interarticular space, 75.0%, osteoprosis 73.5%, soft tissue swelling, 44.4%, bone destruction, 44.4%, in articular type of tuberculosis of the peripheral bones & joints, and cortical desruption, 85.7%, soft tisssue swelling, 64.3%, bone expansion, 57.1% in central type of tuberculosis of the bones & joints.
