Protective clothing systems are usually designed to protect the wearer from hazards in the environment (e.g., fire, chemicals, etc.). However, clothing has been designed to protect the environment from body contaminants also (i.e., clean room apparel used in the production of computer components). The development and/or selection of protective clothing depends upon requirements given in standards, the type and length of hazard exposure, the properties of the clothing materials, garment design features, seam construction, fastening systems, the ease of maintenance, storage, disposability, and in some cases, decontamination and sterilization. Other considerations include life cycle costs, durability of the garments, availability of sizes, ease of donning and doffing garments, compatibility of components with each other and auxiliary equipment, thermal comfort, tactile comfort, and the possible restriction of mobility, hearing, and vision. These variables must be identified and prioritized in the development process.(중략)
