Photonic Microcapsules with varying optical responses depending on thermal history can be designed. Thermally responsive colloidal particles confined in double emulsion are formed with colloidal assembly when it exceeds a certain volume fraction in the drops. The particles consist of polystyrene core and hydrogel polymer shell that have lower critical solution temperature (LCST).
