Radioisotopes provide diagnostic imaging and disease treatment for various diseases including cancer. In order to overcome the limitations of targeted radiation therapy using radioactive isotopes, long-term low-dose radiation therapy was performed by encapsulating the isotope in an injectable hydrogel. However, the difficulty of fabrication of radioactive hydrogels and unpredictable levels of radioactivity at the target site are major obstacles to clinical use.
