The compromise with safety has been a characteristic of nuclear industry in the last decades. Nuclear Power Plants have been engaged to producing energy not only efficiently, but also safely. Despite this environment, the Fukushima accident occurred and contributed to become the nuclear industry even more conservative. Nowadays, when an unscheduled shutdown happens, for instance, a long period of time is observed from the reactor trip to its restarting. Longer shutdown time, however, causes significant financial losses. This leads us to deliberate on whether it is possible to keep safety aspects under control while reducing the financial losses at the same time. Aiming to clarify this kind of doubts, the present study was elaborated to find optimum solutions. The focus of this paper is to analyze the alternatives which are able to minimizes losses while enhancing the safety, for reactor restarting after an unplanned shutdown. The analysis were conducted using the Fixed Boron Dilution Rate Approach (FBDRA). Considering the current practice of shutdown period (approximately 96 hours), a reduction of 34.5% in this period was achieved without violating operation limits and reactor can successfully reach 100% power after shutdown period of 62.88 hours.
