The C1 gases generated in various industrial processes consist of carbon dioxide (CO<SUB>2</SUB>), carbon monoxide (CO), and methane (CH<SUB>4</SUB>). Because these gases cause global climate change, such as the greenhouse effect and environmental pollution, acetogenic bacteria (acetogens) have emerged as a biocatalyst to recycle C1 gases by converting them into value-added biochemicals using the Wood-Ljungdahl (WL) pathway.
