Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most common neurodegenerative disease. Recently, the prevalence of diabetes and AD is getting higher, therefore AD is called “type-3 diabetes’’. While the mechanism of AD pathogenesis has improved in the last decades, the cause of AD still poorly understood. To clarify the pathogenesis of AD caused by diabetes, we developed the hyperglycemic neurovasculature-on-a-chip (NV chip) that mimic diabetic microenvironment in brain. Human brain microvascular endothelial cells (HBMEC) and neural progenitor cell (ReN cell) were co-cultured in NV chip, and glucose was added for hyperglycemic conditions.
