This paper aims to construct a statistical model of daily solar radiation based on stochastic frontier analysis and beta-regression. Naive Gaussian modeling is inappropriate, since the daily solar radiation has an upper bound and its distributional shape depends on its mean value. A stochastic frontier plays the role of the upper bound and the variation is described by a beta-regression model having precipitation and temperature as its explanatory variables.
