Purpose
Angiosarcoma of the breast is a very rare disease that seldom physicians encounter. We analyzed patients’ basic characteristics, disease profile, treatment modalities, and possible prognostic factors in order to better understand the disease.
Methods
This study was conducted retrospectively using data at Department of Surgery, Yonsei University College of Medicine, between January of 2003 and March of 2021. Clinico-pathologic characteristics were compared using Fisher’s exact test for categorical variables and means of continuous variables were analyzed by two-sample t-test. Kaplan-Meier method was used to calculate survival rates.
Results
The range of the patients’ age at initial diagnosis was between 19 and 76, and the median age was 52 years old, with 3 (30.0%) patients were younger than 50 years old and 7 (70.0%) patients were 50 years old and older. The size of the tumor at presentation was smaller than 5cm in 7 (70.0%) patients, larger than 5 but smaller than 10 cm in 2 (20.0%) patients and larger than 10 cm in 1 (10.0%) patient. The median size of the tumor was 3.3cm (range 0.3-14.5cm). Except for 2 (20.0%) patients who had angiosarcoma on their left breast, majority of (80.0%) patients had it on their right breast.
