Purpose
The insertion of a self-expandable metal stent (SEMS) has been proposed as an alternative to emergent surgery (ES) for obstructive colorectal cancer (CRC). However, there is still some concern about stent-related perforation and the possibility of tumor-cell dissemination through the stent. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the perioperative and oncologic outcomes of SEMS as a bridge to surgery in patients with obstructive CRC, as compared with ES
Methods
We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of patients who underwent curative resection of obstructive CRC at six Hallym University-affiliated hospitals between January 2010 and December 2019. All patients were analyzed according to the side of obstruction (right or left).
Results
