Purpose
Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) has the advantages of detecting common bile duct (CBD) abnormalities with high accuracy, short inspection time, need for fewer skilled staff, and no exposure to radiation. Choledocholithiasis must be identified before surgical treatment of patients with cholecystitis. This study aimed to objectively evaluate the utility of MRCP by confirming MRCP results in patients with cholecystitis undergoing cholecystectomy.
Methods
A total of 194 patients underwent preoperative MRCP. MRCP scans were performed on a Philips 3.0T scanner. All MRCP tests were performed in the hospital and prior to surgery or ERCP, and MRCP was used to evaluate for CBD stones, GB stones, acute cholecystitis, and acute pancreatitis.
