The Covid-19 outbreak in 2020 changed the Korean church a lot. Not only did the form and time of worship change, but the overall direction of the ministry also changed, providing an opportunity to rethink the definition and philosophy of the ministry and the church. The Korean church initially recognized this as a crisis, but as time went by, it realized that it was an opportunity and is overcoming difficulties with various changes.
However, the next generation department, the Ministry of Education, is a little different. In particular, the summer ministry, which can be said to be the core of the next generation’s ministry, is wandering yet to set its direction. Accordingly, Coommi (CEO: Pastor Kim Eun-ho) conducted a survey on summer ministry to the Korean church by publishing the results. A more detailed survey was conducted in 2021, and the result were as follows.
The Korean church is not preparing for the Ministry of Education’s summer ministry in 2021. Certainly, only 27% of the total said they had specific plans for summer ministry and only 35% even including other forms of summer ministry.
The center of education is shifting from church to home. About 68 percent of the respondents said they plan to camp only in home or home & church if they plan to camp online. In addition, more than 57 percent said parents were the most important educators in the role. It certainly tells us that ministry is moving from church to home, family.
Despite the crisis, the importance of summer ministry has been revealed. Despite such difficulties in proceeding online, many of the respondents said the need for summer ministry was “very necessary” or looked at it as “necessary.” In addition, the number of days when participants participated online and offline was the highest between 2 and 5 days, with little different compared to before Covid-19.
Finally what is important when selecting summer camp textbooks was the content and theme, followed by accessibility and utilization. In the context of being converted online, what to tell children was still the biggest factor in choosing textbooks.
The result of the survey conducted in Coommi were introduced and finished writing hoping that it would help the Korean church.
