건물일체형 태양광 발전시스템(BIPV: Building Integrated Photovoltaics) 기술은 타일이나 블라인드처럼 생긴 태양광 발전 모듈을 활용해 건물을 꾸미면서 건물에 필요한 전기를 생산하는 태양광 발전 시설을 구축하는 방식을 의미하며, 기존 태양광 시스템과 달리 건축 외장재로서 전력 생산과 더불어 심미성을 높이는 디자인 요소 필요하며, 건물용 전용규격 및 외장재 활용 위한 특수모듈, 컬러제품 등 일부 상용화를 추진되고 있는 등 과거 범용 모듈의 부가 및 부착방식에서 최근 특수모듈, 단열재 등 건축 외장재 적용된 BIPV로 확대되는 추세이다.
