According to the Mermin-Wagner theorem [1], no long-range order is possible in two-dimensional system. However, ferromagnetism in two-dimensional materials has been experimentally discovered. In particular, Fe<sub>x</sub>GeTe<sub>2</sub> family (x = 3, 4, and 5) have relatively high Curie temperature larger than 130 K [2]. Here, we investigate strain dependent magnetic properties of monolayer Fe<sub>3</sub>GeTe<sub>2</sub> (FGT) and bilayer using density-functional theory.
