This study presents a simple hysteretic model to reproduce the stress-strain response of superelastic NiTi shape memory alloys (SMAs). The developed model is capable of simulating the functional degradation of SMAs, which causes the reduction of the transformation stress and the accumulation of permanent strain. Computational efficiency is achieved by idealizing the stress-strain response in a multi-linear phenomenological manner. The model capability is validated against existing experimental results. The developed model reproduced the experimental transformation stress reduction and permanent strain accumulation with fair accuracy.
