Isopropanol is converted industrially to propylene, which is important not only as a fuel but also as a backbone chemical for bioplastics. One of high stress tolerant yeasts, Yarrowia lipolytica is an oleaginous strain possessing relatively high native acetyl-CoA levels. Here, we genetically engineered a Y. lipolytica strain, which is expected to increase the yield of isopropanol.
