Nylons are polyamides which have various widespread uses. Although there have been various attempts for fully-biobased production of nylons, it has not yet been realized. Here, we report characterization and biosynthesis of nylon-4,4 and nylon-5,4 from metabolically engineered bacteria, which produces succinic acid, 1,4-diaminobutane, and 1,5-diaminopentane during fermentation.
