Government General Korea(hereafter GGK) issues Korean and Literary Sinitic Readers for middle schools(hereafter the readers) in 1913 and revises them twice. As the readers represent the status of Joseon and Joseoneo in colonial linguistic and educational policy, they display the discriminative policy of Joseneo against Japanese, the Gokugo and Literary Sinitic, the classical language, in their editorial processes. In the first edition of the readers(1913), being dependent to Literary Sinitic and Japanese, Korean’s Joseoneo is neglected and Joseon is almost excluded as teaching material. In the second edition of them(1924), as the reflection of colonial Korean’s nationalistic resistance and the enhancement of Joseoneo’s cultural assets, can be represented by 3.1 independence movements, Joseoneo can be independent from Literary Sinitic and culture and history of Joseon occupy significant extent as teaching material. In the third edition of the readers(1933-1937), colonial Korean’s Joseoneo texts are composed as teaching material for the first time with significant location and Literary Sinitic texts are mainly edited with works of pre-colonial era Koreans. Though, in third edition’s dualistic editorial process between Joseoneo and Literary Sinitic, discriminative policy for the former is still remaining; for instance, authors and original scripts of former are concealed but those of latter’s are specified. Also just after one year from the complete publishing of the third edition, the New System era and the prohibition of Joseoneo begin, which clarify the opportunistic essence of Japanese colony. The dynamic transition in the revision of the readers and the transformative status of Joseon and Joseoneo as teaching material, are detouring evidences for proving the extension of colonial Joseoneo’s mass communication and education capabilities. However finally, the Joseoneo of Korean is not officially approved in the readers as the status of colonial Korean, the second-degree citizen of Japanese empire in GGK.
