This study is conducted to find ‘g’ sound in Chinese equivalent to ‘ㄱ’ in Korean. While there are two phonemes ‘ㄱ’ and ‘ㄲ’ in Korea, there is only one phoneme, ‘g’ in Chinese. Due to this difference, Chinese learners of Korean have a difficulty in distinguishing lenis from fortis in Korean. Thus, this study aims to look for ‘g’ sound in Chinese equivalent to ‘ㄱ’ in Korean so that it can be used in Korean language education. Accordingly, this study recorded various ‘g’ sounds in Chinese in native Chinese pronunciations and let native Korean speakers hear the sounds. And this study asked them to judge whether the sounds were closer to ‘ㄱ’ or ‘ㄲ’. As a result, it is expected that it would be possible to find ‘g’ sound similar to ‘ㄱ’ sound in Korean and to use it in Korean language education. The letters of which the percentage of Korean people’s perception as ‘ㄱ’ was high include ‘估’ in Tone 1, ‘国, 革’ in Tone 2 and ‘葛’ and ‘古’ in Tone 3. With Tones 1 and 4, the tendency for their perception of ‘g’ as ‘ㄲ’ is high, and Letter ‘估’ appears to be an exception. It seems that the reason may be an impact of Chinese vowels. Focusing Chinese vowels, ‘革’ and ‘葛’ with the Chinese vowel ‘e’ and ‘国,’ ‘古’ and ’估’ with the Chinese vowel ‘u’ are included. To make Chinese learners of Korean recognize the pronunciation of ‘ㄱ,’ it is desirable to teach students, utilizing Chinese Tones 2 and 3 and Chinese vowels ‘e’ and ‘u,’ and especially, the pronunciations of ‘革’ and ‘葛’ and ‘国,’ ‘古’ and ‘估.’ In addition, there are lots of letters that can be utilized in the education of the pronunciation of ‘ㄲ’; however, it is desirable to teach them choosing letters, which take a high percentage, such as ‘嘎,’ ‘更,’ ‘逛’ and ‘剛.’
