The purpose of this study is to recognize the changes in the research of literacy in accordance with the development of technology. And it's to recognize the difference between the literacy theory and the New Literacy theory. The ability to read and write after the birth of letters was essential to access information. Learning letters was the first thing to learn as a social competence. This was an essential means of understanding society beyond access to information. However, as technology developed, the means of producing and understanding information began to develop into various media as well as text. The development of photography technology gave birth to visual literacy, and the invention of television has led to media literacy, with the advent of various digital media such as computers and smartphones, digital literacy has emerged. In modern times, with the development of artificial intelligence, we began to study post-human literacy. The purpose of this literacy has changed not just to read and write letters, but to have the ability of critical social reading to understand society. As such, studying the history of literacy has a need and meaning as a basic task of exploring the purpose and object of " literacy" in the new era.
