Purpose: This study was aimed to assess the effectiveness of traditional Chinese medicine fumigation on diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Method: China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI), Wanfang Data, VIP Database, Cochrane Library and PubMed were used to search. The search term included "Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy” AND "Traditional Chinese Medicine Fumigation” OR "Fumination” AND "Nursing” OR "Nurse”, the language was limited to Chinese and English. Meta-analysis was performed using Cochrane Review Manager software 5.3 based on Mantel-Haenszel (M-H) bandwidth, 95% Confidence interval, the quality evaluation was used by Cochrane Risk of Bias. Result: Chinese medicine fumigation was effective in improving the symptoms of lower extremity, pain, and coldness in diabetic peripheral neuropathy patients(RR=1.29, 95% CI: 1.11, 1.49). The diabetes symptom score was reduced by more than 30% before treatment(RR=1.27, 95% CI: 1.15, 1.42). The neurotransmission rate was increased by more than 2m/s(R=1.42, 95% CI: 1.24, 1.62). It was found to be ineffective in improving the quality of sleep. Conclusion:
Based on the results of this study, it is recommended that Chinese medicine fumigation is applied to diabetic peripheral neuropathy patients.
