The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of young children’s temperament and social support perceived by mother on maternal social parenting behavior, focusing on the mediating effects of mother’s parenting stress. Data from 1,654 mothers who had children aged 3 years old and also participated in the 4th year of the Panel Study of Korean Children Survey were used for analysis. Data analysis was conducted by descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and regression analysis using SPSS 22.0. Results of the study were as follows. First, there were correlations among young children’s temperament, social support for mother, maternal parenting stress and social parenting behaviors. Second, it was confirmed that social temperament, active temperament, spousal support, and surrounding people’s support had positive effects on maternal social parenting behavior, and maternal parenting stress had negative effects on maternal social parenting behavior. Third, maternal parenting stress partially mediated the effects of young children’s social temperament and active temperament on maternal social parenting behavior, and completely mediated the effects of infant's emotional temperament on maternal social parenting behavior. In addition, maternal parenting stress had partial mediating effects of spousal support and surrounding people’s support on maternal social parenting behavior. This revealed that young children’s temperament, social support for mother, and maternal parenting stress had direct and indirect effects on mother's social parenting behavior.
