Most of wastewater treatment plants, which inject coagulant for total phosphorus treatment, have the fixed system using Jar test, regardless of influent concentration, and inject coagulant using PO4-P sensor following the real time monitoring. In this way, the removal process is inefficient because optimum dosage of coagulant is not injected. Furthermore, it results in economic problem by using costly PO4-P sensor. In order to solve these problems, this study applied EC which has a close correlation with PO4-P concentration variety in PO4-P coagulation. The main purpose of this study is to get economic and positive results by the real time monitoring with EC sensor and injecting optimum coagulant dosage. The correlation coefficient of EC and the PO4-P was 0.94. Therefore, EC is available to use instead of PO4-P sensor in the automatic phosphorus coagulation control system. The concentration of EC affects not only PO4-P but also inorganic substance such as NH4-N and organisms. However, EC was not influenced by the concentration of NH4-N and COD which are already removed by biological reaction in front of the membrane reactor. Also, the limit concentration that might influence the EC of nutrients and organisms was analyzed by spike test. The effluent concentration of PO4-P was maintained under 0.18 mg/L and the removal efficiency of PO4-P were increased from 90% at the fixed coagulation system to 95% at the automatic phosphorus coagulation control system. The coagulant dosage was decreased by 20% of fixed coagulation system
