This study was to investigate the effects of the music therapy using instruments on cognitive function, elderly depression, and life satisfaction of the elders with dementia symptoms. elder who doubted by dementia are the most urgent and effective dementia prevention and coping program. the experimental group and the waiting control group were administered to the elderly in the G city of Gangwon-do. Both group were measured the cognitive function(MMSE-K), elderly depression(GDSSF-K), and life satisfaction before and after music therapy program. Experimental group participated in music therapy program using instruments for a total of 12 sessions, once a week for 40 minutes, and for 3 months from January 2017. Waiting control group did not participate any other programs related with dementia and cognitive. Independent sample t-test was conducted to test the group homogeneity, and the effect of music therapy program using instruments was tested through covariance analysis(ANCOVA) because some differences were found among the variables at before. As a result, music therapy using instruments program improved cognitive function, elderly depression, and life satisfaction. This suggests that music therapy using instruments may be effective as a dementia prevention program for the elderly with dementia doubted.
