With the emergence of the requirements for changes in the high-rise apartment oriented lives according to the increase of desire for better quality of life, there has been increasing interest of the terrace houses that have the advantages of both detached houses and apartment houses. This study analyzed the environment-friendly planning elements of six terrace houses in Korea based on literature review and case studies. Through literature review, 7 goals and 20 planning elements were extracted and we analyzed six cases based on these elements. The results of the study are as follows. First, the application rate of the environment-friendly elements appeared to be in the order of the external space linked with nature, expansion of planting area, environment-friendly parking space, recovery of the connection to the ground / utilization of the existing terrain and forest zone, recovery of ecological order / resource recycling. Second, wall-planting and artificial ground greening have an effect in the aspect of expansion of planting area and energy saving, so these environment-friendly planning elements should be applied more actively. In addition, installing pedestrian roads is necessary to improve pedestrian's safety and amenity. Third, application of the planning elements of recovery of ecological order and resource recycling was insufficient. Accordingly, there seems to be a need for the creation of the terrigenous biotopes as well as the creation of aquatic biotopes, making ecological learning-places. The application of the effective rainwater reusing system by utilizing a slope and wastewater reuse is also necessary.
