The baby boomers consists of about 15% of the total population and they started to retire in 2010. Due to the size of this group of people, their retirement has become a social issue in Korea. The purpose of this study was to analyze the baby boomers retirement preparation and the preparation types of retirement. The results showed that about 80% of baby boomers were preparing for their retirement. Among them, 46% were preparing for their retirement through public pension plan. Other than public pension plan, many baby boomers chose savings and cash-value life insurance (24.39%) as their major retirement preparation methods followed by annuity(18.72%). Among the baby boomers, 5.5% chose real estate as their major retirement preparation methods. The results of the multinomial logit analysis indicated that the choice of annuity was related to higher level of education and income, and the choice of real estate was related to financial factors such as higher level of income and home ownership. The implication on retirement preparation for the baby boomers, policy makers, and future study was provided.
