As Fenkl using his real name in the Memories of My Ghost Brother, this novel is in a way fictional but also a frank memoir. Rarely as Kijichon literature, it is written in the perspective of an insider who has gone through much suffering and overcomes the tendency of internal-colonialist to look upon Kijichoin people as the other in Korea. The national circumstance of giving up a certain woman's body as the price for receiving military and economic aid from America is reproduced through Insu's family. The family made up of Korean military camp woman and an American solider is an hybrid one formed out of the imbalance of power between Korea and America. Insu's mother is far from the military camp stereotypical female such as the pure victim or an erotic prostitute and has a place as a vital middle-aged woman who can not be measured in terms of ethics. Insu's perspective also gives life to an American solider who had died unjustly, fighting in a foreign land. The American military were non-existent beings who were not properly depicted, but only endowed with roles of negative foreign power. However, in Memories of My Ghost Brother, the American father gains the sympathy of readers as a helpless victim of American nationalism. The American father illustrates how the nationalist ideology disciplines and exploits the male body. The American military men attempt to arm themselves with masculinity, having pride as subjects representing the nation. However, they later come to realize that they were not subjects of the nation but mere expendable objects of nationalism. Thus, the portrait of Insu's hybrid family is remembered as painful history by Korean readers and remembered by American readers as the painful consequences of American military being stationed in a foreign country.
