The purpose of this study was to analyze effects of Korean dance on body composition, blood plasma lipids and resting heart rate in middle-aged women. Ten middle-aged women (44.25±5.78yr) took part in this study. Four days in a week, four korean dance programs (salpuri, zeokhungmu, dalgubeol deodbaegi, seongmu) was performed for two hours a day, 24 weeks. Average exercise intensity on four Korean dance program was 65-70 %HRmax. The mean values and standard deviations were calculated, and then t-test was conducted by SPSS 10.0 for comparing data between pre and post Korean dance programs. Statistical significance level was p<.05. The results are as follows. 1. After Korean dance, %Body fat was significant decreased from 31.44±4.43% to 27.56±3.87%. Abdominal fat mass and BMI also significantly decreased after Korean dance. 2. Total cholesterol, triglyceride, hemoglobin and hematocrit were not significantly different, but glucose was significantly decreased after Korean dance. 3. Before and after the dance, resting heart rate significantly decreased from 70.45± 8.34bpm to 65.67±7.76bpm. As result above, Korea Traditional Dance program has effect on middle-aged women in the body composition, blood glucose and resting heart rate.
