A number of recent studies have evaluated the effects of taekwondo program. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of taekwondo on body composition, physical fitness and growth factors. Subjects were composed of twenty healthy adolescents who were twelve years old. The taekwondo program was composed of 50 minutes per day(Duration), 5 days per week(Frequency) during 12-week. The taekwondo program was changed every 2 weeks. Paired t-test was used to evaluate the difference of pre and post 12 weeks taekwondo training. The .05 level of significance was as critical level for the study. The results of this study are as follow; 1. Lean body mass(LBM) and body weight were significantly increased after taekwondo training group, but in the control group, the weight and %fat were significantly increased after 12 weeks. 2. O2max(ℓ/min), muscle strength and sit up and trunk flexion were significantly (p<.05) improved after 12 weeks taekwondo training, but no changed muscle strength in the control group. 3. Growth hormone, IGF-1 and IGFBP3 were significantly increased after 12weeks in the taekwondo group, but no changed growth factors, which are growth hormone, IGF-1 and IGFBP3 in the control group. In conclusion, Taekwondo program was shown to positive influence on body composition, physical fitness and growth factors which are growth hormone, IGF-1 and IGFBP3 in adolescents. However, we would better develope the variable taekwondo program to improve their body composition, physical fitness and growth factors.
