The purpose of this research is to identify university students' preference degrees and criteria for sports drinks according to their gender and sport participation degrees, and secure basic data in establishing appropriate sales strategies. 314 male and female university students attending universities in the city of Daegu, North Gyeongsang Province, South Gyeongsang and Ulsan as of March 2006 were selected through random sampling. Out of 350 collected copies of the questionnaire, 314 copies excluding incomplete 36 copies were utilized as effective final data. Respondents completed the questionnaire through the self-administration method. A questionnaire was used as this research's tool. The questionnaire consisted of questions on respondents' socio-demographic backgrounds asking their age and participation level over sports, and five questions such as their favorite sports drink brands, criteria for sports drinks choice, favorite sports drinks flavors, favorite sports drinks colors, and favorite sports drinks tastes. Collected data were made to undergo coding work using PCs and the statistical program SPSS 12.0, coding errors were corrected through frequency analysis, and data were processed through crosstabluation analysis to fit into the research purpose. In conclusion, the most favorite sports drink brand was Pocari Sweat, and the criteria for choosing sports drinks placed priority on taste. The favorite flavor was lemon, the favorite colors of sports drinks were colorless and white, and the favorite taste of sports drinks was sweet, the survey revealed.
