Constructing a Future-Oriented Model of Animation Education through Interdisciplinary Studies of Animation Kim, Hyo Yong Assistant Professor / Dept. Animation&Product Interaction , Hansung University Since the Korean government declared digital contents as one of the industrial fields leading the national economy in the future, animation has gained great public attention and has made a tremendous stride as an academic field of study. Yet, current recession in the animation industry raises debate about challenges met by the field of animation in Korea. Criticism is centered around structural defects in the Korean animation industry and problems in current animation education. This study offers two possible ways to solve these problems. First, multi-pronged efforts should be made in order to develop new fields of animation, and studyinganimation with interdisciplinary approachis one useful way of such efforts. Not only is interdisciplinary study of animation compatible withcurrent paradigm shift in the academia, but also it will be an innovative breakthrough in creating new fields in animation. Second, interdisciplinary approach should be utilized in animation education so that animation education will cultivate human resources who will open up new markets in the animation industry and meet the demand of the future animation industry. To be sure, constructing a model of animation education with interdisciplinary approach will be an innovative paradigm in animation education and it will revigorate the Korean animation industry. In this regard, interactive entertainment, which is an interdisciplinary program currently offered in Hansung University, will be an exemplary initiative that aims to suggest a new model of animation education as well as to open up new areas of animation.
