<Abstract> Multi-culture and its Educational Challenge in Korea Kim, Hong―Un ․ Kim, Doo―Jung “Multi―culture” is seen all over the world nowadays. It is a heterogeneous culture where many different cultures are mixed. Multi―culture in Korea is explained in terms of immigrant laborers, internationally married couples, and exodus from North Korea. The study discusses major multi-cultural issues and problems in Korea. Finally educational challenges in relation to the multi-culture in Korea are discussed. Important multi―cultural challenges are finally drawn in view of the two aspects: society general and education. Specific challenge are as follows. Firstly, immigrants from other countries or North Korea should be respected in view of human right and equality. Secondly, related laws and systems in response to multi-culture society should be established. Thirdly, school curriculum should be reformed in the direction of multi―culturalism. National curriculum should contain multi―cultural issues in its contents. Textbook contents should be analysed in terms of multi―culturalism. Fourthly, specific school programs such as teaching Korean as learning language and the same age learning group beyond language abilities should be planned and implemented to accept multi―culturalism. Fifthly, teacher training should be provided so that teachers can understand multi―cultural issues and related specific practices. Lastly, educational system for national unification should established.
